Jumeirah Beach Residence

About this area

Situated between the clear waters of the Arabian Gulf on one side and Dubai Marina on the other, Jumeirah Beach Residence offers its distinct atmosphere and community – along with some of the best leisure, dining, and shopping options anywhere in the city.

Built as a self-contained beachside residential district complete with hotels, shops, and other amenities, Jumeirah Beach Residence – universally known as JBR – is divided into six blocks: Murjan, Sadaf, Bahar, Rimal, Amwaj, and Shams, with Murjan at the north-east end, and Shams at the south-west.

Each block has a ground level facing onto JBR Walk, as well as a plaza level, accessible by stairs or lifts from JBR Walk – and each block is made up of several numbered towers. So you might see the location of places listed as “Plaza level, Bahar 4” or “Amwaj, JBR Walk” to give an idea of where they are within JBR.

Enjoy sun, sand, and shopping at JBR beach

JBR’s beach is great for sun-seekers, sports fans, shoppers and more

How could the highlight of Jumeirah Beach Residence be anything but the beach itself? A beautiful 1.7km stretch of sand, the beach at JBR is one of the most popular and well-served in Dubai, with great options for sunbathing, water sports, and more.

One must-do activity at JBR beach is a ride on The Flying Cup – a family-favorite attraction that takes you 40 meters up in the air while rotating 360 degrees, where you can also enjoy a snack during your ride. Other great options include a camel ride along the sand, banana boat rides, and a kids-sized train ride through the district – or of course, you could just relax and enjoy the sun.

While most of the beach is free and open to the public, some parts are used by the hotels within JBR, so you must be a guest – or have purchased a beach day pass – to sunbathe there. For sunbathing on the public beach, you’re free to bring your own items, or you can hire sunbeds, towels, lockers, and even cabanas by the day.

JBR’s beachside facilities gained a huge boost with the opening of The Beach, the area’s open-air shopping district, located right on the shore. Here you can not only hire beach equipment and book activities, but also dine and refresh at dozens of restaurants and cafes, do some seaside shopping, and even chill out in an air-conditioned cinema.

The Beach at JBR also has plenty of options for more energetic activities, including an outdoor gym, beach volleyball court, and a 600m running track. This makes it perfect for a full day of beachside fun with friends or family, with some good-natured competition on the court, followed by lunch, sunbathing, and maybe the latest blockbuster to cool off at the end of the day.

Be spoilt for choice at JBR Walk

Take a stroll along the neighborhood’s ever-popular promenade

Running the whole length of JBR is The Walk at Jumeirah Beach Residence – commonly called JBR Walk. This is the district’s main promenade, and a favorite place for residents and visitors alike to stroll.

JBR Walk is packed with great dining options and a host of other facilities, from spas and salons, to gift shops such as I Love Dubai. The promenade also plays host to regular pop-up markets, where you can find all sorts of things, from interesting keepsakes and fun foodstuffs to high-fashion accessories and hand-made art.

Lined with the towers of JBR on one side, and several hotels on the other, along with The Beach Mall, there’s always a lot going on at JBR Walk. Expect a lively atmosphere and plenty of people, especially in the evenings and at weekends – while early mornings on JBR Walk are a great time to enjoy the day at its freshest, and pick up some breakfast from one of the Walk’s many cafes.
